The Philanthropy Day Committee of Philanthropy Partners of the Cape and Islands is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Distinguished Service to Philanthropy Awards. The awards were presented during the luncheon at Philanthropy Day on Cape Cod, which was held on Wednesday, November 13 , 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis.
Nominations solicited from the community were reviewed and the following individuals, businesses and organizations were chosen for this year’s categories:
Outstanding Philanthropist Award: David and Melissa McGraw
Outstanding Philanthropist Award: David and Melissa McGraw. Nominated by HopeHealth; Cape Cod Conservatory; Heritage Museums and Cape Cod Academy. Through their family foundation, David and Melissa McGraw have continued their family’s commitment to supporting Cape Cod’s cultural, educational and health service nonprofits through their volunteer efforts, financial support and advocacy. Over the years, their support has benefited thousands of Cape Cod residents.

Outstanding Business Award: Cape Associates
Outstanding Business Award: Cape Associates. Nominated by the YMCA of Cape Cod; Housing Assistance Corporation of Cape Cod (HAC); Cape Cod Children’s Place, Inc., and Cape Cod Young Professionals (CCYP). Cape Associates has demonstrated outstanding commitment to local area nonprofits through “Build Week” for the YMCA of Cape Cod; “Project Playhouse” for HAC; the “Back to Business Bash” for CCYP and repairs and upgrades for Cape Cod Children’s Place. Their annual Cape Associates Playhouse Raffle has raised and donated over $75,000 to twenty-one local charities to date. Cape Associates also has a scholarship program benefiting graduates of Nauset High School and Cape Cod Regional Technical High School.

Outstanding Volunteer Award: Ann Williams
Outstanding Volunteer Award: Ann Williams. Nominated by Cape Cod Community College Educational Foundation. As a volunteer with many Cape Cod organizations, Ann Williams’ tireless energy has benefited such diverse nonprofit organizations as Rotary International, Pure Water for the World, the American Cancer Society, Cape Cod Mental Health, Cape Cod Child and Family Services, the Town of Barnstable’s Finance Committee and her local church. Ms. Williams has served on the Board of the Cape Cod Community College Educational Foundation since 1991 and serves as Barnstable representative to the School Committee for Cape Cod Regional Technical High School.

Outstanding Youth Award: James “Jake” Barry
Outstanding Youth Award: James “Jake” Barry. Nominated by Raine and Clara Gilbert. High School Senior Jake Barry saw a need and organized a community effort to renew his local playground through a two- phase fundraising and redevelopment effort which ended with a clean, safe play area, modern swings and a twisty slide, climbing rock and playhouse, handicapped access picnic table and bench and Omni Spinner, which can accommodate handicapped children.
