Barnstable Land Trust, a nonprofit land conservation organization based on Cape Cod, has announced that Executive Director Janet Milkman has been appointed as President of the Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition’s (MLTC) Board of Directors. She previously served on the Board as Vice President. As Chair, she will be responsible for leading the Board in promoting and implementing MLTC’s vision and strategic policy. Cape Cod is also represented on the Board by Mary Griffin, a resident of Orleans and a former Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, and Diana Ruiz, Executive Director of the Native Land Conservancy based in Mashpee.
Janet joined the Barnstable Land Trust as Executive Director in 2017. She has worked for non-profit organizations for 35 years, with a focus on smart growth and community development, and energy and environmental policy and practice. Her previous leadership roles include the Marion Institute and of the Philadelphia-area Green Building Council and 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania.
“It is an honor to take on the role of President of MLTC’s Board of Directors,” said Milkman. “Conserving natural and working lands is critically important to helping the Commonwealth of Massachusetts meet its Clean Energy and Climate Plan and Bioidiversity Goals. I look forward to working with Robb Johnson and the MLTC’s team, my board colleagues, and MLTC’s 140 statewide members to save more land faster.”
Other newly board members were Rachel Bruce (Wildlands Trust) and Emily Myron (The Nature Conservancy).
