The Cape Cod Foundation announced that Alexander MacLean has joined their team.
Alex was born in upstate New York, grew up in western Massachusetts, and received his bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. The next major move took him to Brooklyn, NY, where he served as the Operations Manager and Sales Analyst for Wind Analytics and co-founded Camilla Boutique, a brick and mortar boutique and online store specializing in eco-friendly home goods, clothing, and accessories, with his wife, Camilla.
In 2015, the couple wanted to move to a smaller city, and—cue rim shot—wound up in the heart of LA. There they started their second business, Saint Lawrence, a high-end jewelry manufacturing company which developed exclusive items for major clients like the Broad Museum. They also founded Commerce for Change, donating 10-20% of their profits to charity and inspiring dozens of other businesses to do the same and participate in Community Empowerment.
A seat on the Board of his children’s elementary school lead to Alex’s next professional appointment: Director of Admissions for Friends Western School in Pasadena, CA. Among many accomplishments, he developed and implemented an extensive outreach program to diversify the school’s student population to reflect the community it serves. In two years, the school’s BIPOC demographics increased from 10% to 45%.
The pandemic changed everything. Above all, Alex and Camilla realized they missed family and didn’t want their kids Ailish and Corson, now 5 and 8, to just have a “facetime relationship” with their grandparents. So, they moved back east to South Orleans. Camilla grew up here; her parents live nearby; his parents are a few hours away. Day to day life now includes Snowy Owl coffee trips, after school walks with the kids at low tide, boating and seal watching on the Outer Beach, and a new job with The Cape Cod Foundation.
As Fund Administrator, Alex will be involved in all facets of the Foundation’s operations, working to enhance our organizational effectiveness and donor services. His responsibilities include fund and project management, policy and procedure development, office-wide improvements such as technology upgrades, recording keeping and file retention, and coordinating donor-initiated events and fundraising efforts.
“I love working with compassionate people doing mission-based work. Our goal is to make the work—and the world—better. What could be better than that?” Alex said.
We couldn’t agree more.
